| Drury Inn gets redo Tue, 8 Jul 2008 10:50:51 -0500 Bowling Green’s Drury Inn has undergone a complete interior renovation. Starting in March 2007, the five-story, 140-room hotel at 3250 Scottsville Road was completely renovated, one floor at a time. “It looks like a brand-new hotel,” said Christy Wiley, the hotel’s regional sales manager. “We have just a few minor details to finish,” she said last week. The renovation includes totally new flooring, an essentially new lobby, new furniture throughout and the remodeling of every room in the 11-year-old hotel. The room renovations were done one floor at a time. “We had to displace some guests, but it went very smoothly,” Wiley said. “It was time for a nice facelift.” One of the more noticeable aspects of the renovation for guests will be the 37-inch, flat panel televisions in every room. Drury Inns Inc. is a family-owned company based in Missouri that operates more than 120 hotels in 19 states. Bonnie Brown, Drury Inns Inc. manager of marketing services, said the company tries to renovate each hotel in the chain every five to seven years. “We believe very strongly in keeping our hotels in tip-top shape all the time,” Brown said. The renovations were overseen by the company’s in-house construction division. With a tightening economy cutting into the travel business, Brown said the renovation can help the hotel stand out in the market. “We have to be more diligent than ever,” she said. “The lodging business is in the same boat - we’re all looking for the same guests.” |
| 9-to-5 News Tue, 8 Jul 2008 10:50:51 -0500 News about area businesses and businesspeople. Chamber rated one of top three in the nation The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce was selected as one of the top three chambers in the nation with dues income ranging from $500,000 to $1 million by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. “I’m thrilled to announce that the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce is receiving national recognition for its work and strength in the community and region,” said Doug Gorman, 2008 chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors. “This is a well-deserved ranking because of the excellent board, ambassadors, staff, volunteers and partners that we have here at the chamber. The chamber aims to be a positive influence in Bowling Green, Warren County and southcentral Kentucky, and to have our efforts acknowledged by ACCE is a great honor.” Each year, ACCE recognizes three to four chambers in each of four dues categories for their excellence in overall operations, programs, partnership numbers and other functions. The rankings are determined through a multi-stage process based on organizational excellence, member services and connections, and programs that demonstrate the core chamber strengths of economic opportunities, impact, focus and/or advocacy. The chamber received this ranking in large part due to the results of 2007: the grand opening of its multi-million dollar new facility; 14 new and expanding industry announcements; and more than 300 new chamber partners. Mary Cohron, immediate past chair of the board of directors, said, “2007 was an amazing year for us at the chamber, and all that we accomplished would not have been possible without everyone’s support. In this community, we often are told how strong our chamber is, and this ranking re-affirms what we already know.” Chamber President and CEO James N. Hizer said he is proud to know that the work of the chamber staff, volunteers, board members and Ambassadors Club members is being acknowledged across the nation. “All parties involved in the chamber directly impact the daily happenings in our office. These rankings wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of everyone to make Bowling Green a great place to live, work and play.” ISTT gets visit from reps from Panasonic ISTT Inc., a locally owned technology company, was recently visited by two people from Panasonic’s headquarters in Japan.
