| Locally Owned: Master Clean is a flooring specialist Tue, 1 Jul 2008 10:59:25 -0500 Each week, the Daily News profiles a locally owned business. Name of business: Master Clean Inc. Location: 111 Dishman Lane, Bowling Green Type of business: Flooring and furniture care When did it open? 1985 Owners: Benjamin J. Hinton Number of employees: Eight Specialty: Carpet, upholstery, hardwood, tile and complete floor care How did the business get started? Master Clean started in 1985 as a janitorial company. I purchased the company in 2003 and through extensive education and training, Master Clean now specializes in total floor care. What is your background? I was in partnership with a janitorial and floor care company before purchasing Master Clean. What are your biggest challenges as a business? Getting clients to change their negative views of the carpet/floor cleaning business is our biggest challenge. We have found that a lot of our clients had given up on the carpet cleaning service industry because the last company left their carpets too wet, they didn’t feel like other methods got the carpets clean, something came up broken or missing or there was too much soap left behind. What’s your business philosophy? Our business philosophy is to offer a premium service for all types of flooring and furniture care. So our clients can expect quality, customer service, value and satisfaction. We strive for our clients to be thrilled with our service from start to finish. What issues are affecting your industry? There are a lot of unethical businesses in our industry who offer unscrupulous tactics such as bait and switch or the high-pressure sales attempts which make the client feel taken advantage of. What are the factors that make your business successful? We have built a reputation as having the most experience on all types of flooring and furniture concerns. Because of the extensive training and education, we are able to implement a guarantee to our clients that they will be completely thrilled or they pay nothing. How do you handle competition? I encourage them to seek out the knowledge to help us raise the industry standards. We don’t try to undercut anyone simply to get a job. We want to see them do well, because we never know when we might need their help. No single company could ever handle all the business in Bowling Green. What is your advice to someone thinking about opening a business? Look into every aspect of the business, talk to other owners who have the same type of business. Find your niche. Give the client a reason to want you over someone else. |

The SFI program certifies companies based on a comprehensive system of principles, objectives and performance measures that were developed by professional foresters, conservationists and scientists. “The green awareness movement is rapidly gaining momentum,” Downing said. “We specifically sought to achieve FSC/SFI Chain of Custody certification because we view it as our responsibility as a market leader to not only support the practice of responsible forestry, but to provide our customers with access to paper that is verified as environmentally conscious.” Liberty provides clients with a “greener” alternative when printing. This helps conserve renewable and non-renewable resources and gives more and more organizations an opportunity to partner in preservation and environmental awareness.
