The Louisville native was born Sept. 30, 1925. She was a 1948 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in music education. She retired from teaching with 30 years of service as band director at Lewisburg High School, Elkton Elementary School and James T. Alton Middle School. She was an active member and past regent of the Jacob Van Meter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Sonora Cemetery Board and was very involved in genealogy. She was a daughter of the late Floyd Turner and Mabel Miller Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Franklin “Red” Brown.

He was born Oct. 15, 1917. He was a retired mechanic for Warren Rural Electric Coop. and attended Bethel Church of Christ. He was the retired fire chief of 27 years for Auburn Rural Fire Department, of which he was a founder. He was a son of the late V.C. Givens and Barshia Gibbs Givens. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Givens of Auburn; and a nephew, Doug Givens of Jacksonville, Fla.

The Sugar Grove native was a Baptist minister. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and served as pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville for 43 years. He served as moderator and superintendent of Sunday School Congress of the Union District Association and received a doctorate of ministry degree from the Bowling Green Bible College. He was the first black citizen in Logan County to serve on a grand jury and visit the Holy Land. He was commissioned twice as a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a former Auburn city commissioner, former president of the NAACP and Human Rights in Logan County and was named Logan County’s Citizen of the Year in 1987. He was a son of the late Benjamin Reavly McKinney and Eliza Beason McKinney and the husband of the late Kathy Bell Boyd McKinney. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Ordean McKinney Tisdale; a son-in-law, Booker Toliver Tisdale Jr.; two brothers, George and Victor McKinney; four sisters, Ordean and Searcy McKinney, Eunice Cook and Edith Mae Ray; maternal grandparents, Frank and Betty Claypool; paternal grandparents, George McKinney and Angeline Bailey McKinney; two grandchildren, Booker Toliver “Bird” Tisdale III and Adrian McKinney; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Alexander Kees and Ruby Pearl Grinter.

Angie M. Rust Fri, 25 Apr 2008 11:14:40 -0500 RUSSELLVILLE — Angie Marie Rust, 93, formerly of Adairville, died April 23, 2008, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Bowling Green, where she had resided in their care for the past six years.
The Todd County native was born Sept. 17, 1914. She was educated in Portland, Tenn., graduating from Portland High School in 1930. She began her teaching career at the age of 18 in a one-room schoolhouse. Over her lifetime, she dedicated 37 years, including 28 years in the Logan County School System, to teaching. She taught at Pleasant Run School, Stuart’s Chapel, Adairville School, Olmstead Elementary and Johnstown Elementary. A longtime resident of Adairville, Ms. Rust was a faithful member of Adairville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in Women on Mission. She received her bachelor of science degree from Western Kentucky State College in 1961. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teacher’s Association. She was a strong person, overcoming adversity with dignity, and was loved and honored by her family. She was a daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Lealer Gregory Martin. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Angel; two brothers, Virgil Thomas “Bud” Martin and Walter Lee Martin; a sister, Ruby Blick; and former husband, W.S. “Jack” Rust.
