Steel, fabric in lead to adorn UK Hospital atrium Tue, 05 Aug 2008 18:55 EDT

Hanging sculptures of stainless steel and fabric were chosen as the lead finalist to fill a three-story atrium at the new University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital. The hospital is under construction and will open in phases beginning in 2010.

Warren Seelig, an artist from Rockland, Maine, designed the structures. They are mobile-like creations that would hang from a large skylight in the hospital's main lobby.

The sculptures are meant to be viewed from any angle, Seelig said in his application..The sculpture is perceived not only looking at its form but through it as well,. he wrote.

Seelig was one of four artists who presented their concepts at UK Tuesday.
